Where to stay in Nelson, New Zealand: Paradiso Backpackers Hostel Nelson

Nelson is a beautiful little city on the South Island of New Zealand. When arriving at the South Island by ferry, it’s probably your next stop after the ferry pier in Picton. Nelson is the ideal starting point for hikes and other outdoor activities in the Abel Tasman National Park. I stayed at Paradiso Backpackers Hostel in Nelson, a very comfortable and entertaining hostel who really cares about you having an awesome time in Nelson.

Getting there/Location

42 Weka Street, Nelson, 7015 New Zealand

The Paradiso Backpackers Hostel Nelson is located about 650 m outside the city centre. When arriving at the bus station on Bridge Street, you turn left on Bridge Street and cross the bridge. Turn left on Tasman Street and then right on Weka Street where you find the hostel. Pick-ups can also be arranged with the hostel.

Rooms

The hostel offers four, six, seven and eight bed dorms as well as double or twin rooms. You can also reserve a spot at the tent site of the hostel.

Facilities

The Paradiso Backpackers Hostel Nelson offers so many facilities so that nobody can be ever bored there. There is a “living room”, a kitchen and a TV area which looks like a bunk bed and is accessible via a ladder above the reception. They have a book exchange, a lot of games and a DVD library. The rooms are equipped with lockers. You can connect to the wifi from everywhere in the hostel. You can make use of a coin-operated washing machine.
In the outdoor area you can find a heated swimming pool, a sauna and a spa which is so relaxing during cold winter days. You can play beach volleyball, table soccer or rent a bike. The tent site offers people a cheap opportunity to stay in Nelson with all the comforts of the hostel.

Pros

The hostel offers so many free things for backpackers. The best thing was the free soup every evening including donated bread from a bakery closeby. This soup was really tasty and is probably a more healthy way to have dinner than most backpackers are used to. Additional free things include breakfast, wlan, tea and coffee. Paradiso Backpackers also offered free Nelson Day Tours.
